Many of us attracted to marketing brought the love of using creativity to get people interested in a product or service. We loved the idea of creating an amazing advertising campaign that caused the sales needle to go way up! A large group of marketing and advertising professionals have talent and skill in writing, others have the visual design skills, and others are great at project management of campaigns with lots of moving pieces!
At the core, the ability to creatively get consumers excited about a product/service and cut through the clutter is what draws people to marketing careers. Yet, today, there is more and more demand on the measurement, analysis and strategy that will sustain a marketing plan through a crowded marketplace. While we can adapt and be strategists by providing ROI on our marketing campaigns, the analytical side can dilute our creative juices.
To keep your creative side fed, here are some ideas:
- Brainstorm with a friend or co-worker
- Rearrange your desk
- Drive a different way home from work
- Carry a notebook to jot down ideas that pop in your head
- Go for a walk and upon returning, write down everything that you noticed
