The Missed Social Opportunity – Facebook Does Rule

Consider how social media is our FREE test group!

The world of Facebook is ever growing, more users sign up everyday and our opportunity to “market” through social media is increasing. Here are some statistics:

  • Facebook has more than 500 million active users
  • 50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day
  • Average user has 130 friends
  • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook
  • More than 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) are shared each month.

In marketing, a powerful tool is the testimonial. In social media, like Facebook, conversations happen between prospective customers/members and existing customers/members. If we tap into these conversations, our reward can include testimonials that will provide evidence that our products/promotions deliver the results we promise. Plus, engaging with consumers in social media allows market research by letting us hear what the customers/members think!

In just one example, there are a lot of people on Facebook as well as other social media, from Twitter to LinkedIn to YouTube. People can spread your company’s brand through their networks and give you direct insight on what works and does not work from your company.

Another aspect is the youthfulness of consumers using Facebook and other networks. Always looking for new customers/members, the young adults are found online and on mobile checking in. In fact according to a Forrester Research’s North American Technographics Youth Survey Q3, 2010, 90% of 12 to-17 year-olds who are active on social networks have an account on Facebook. data_digest_the_social_networks_young_consumers_use

Think of social media as another spoke of your marketing strategy and decide what insights you want to learn to improve your marketing.

Embrace new ways to reach or listen to customers/members and consider the benefits it can provide.
